Building a Strong Foundation for Every Child

WHO wE ARE

The Foundation for the Promotion of Childhood Care and Development in Nigeria (FPCD) is a national coalition of organizations, professionals, and advocates dedicated to advancing the rights and well-being of Nigeria’s youngest children. Established as a result of international collaboration and national commitment, FPCD serves as a unifying platform that promotes partnership, policy integration, and sustainability in early childhood development (ECD) across Nigeria.

FPCD works closely with government agencies, civil society, and global partners to strengthen the implementation of ECD policies, ensuring that every Nigerian child grows up in a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment. Through advocacy, research, training, and knowledge exchange, the foundation continues to shape national dialogue and practical action around child development and education.

Our Key Thematic Areas

Training of Trainers

We organize structured six-month training programs for educators and caregivers in public and private pre-primary schools, day care centers, and crèches. These trainings enhance their teaching skills and knowledge in early childhood care and development, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for young learners. Successful participants receive a Certificate of Participation at the end of the program.

Parental Empowerment

We empower parents—especially mothers—by offering practical skill acquisition programs to help augment family income. Participants receive hands-on training in small-scale production such as liquid soap, Zobo drinks, Kunu drinks, and snacks making. This initiative not only promotes economic self-reliance but also supports stronger, more stable households for children’s growth.

Collaboration and Conferences

In partnership with state governments, member NGOs, professional experts, and individuals in the ECD field, FPCD successfully organized Nigeria’s first National ECD Conference on September 12, 2024, under the theme “Promoting Multilingual Education: Literacy for Mutual Understanding and Peace.” This event highlighted the critical role of language diversity in fostering inclusion and national unity.
